Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie
The Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie is the result of the interweaving of three ensembles: the original building, the recent reconfiguration and the temporary exhibition spaces. Although all three belong to a single museum, the visitor's first observation is that there is a real lack of convenience. The aim of this project is to install the new extension dedicated to temporary exhibitions with the ambition of creating a mediation pathway that is consistent with the importance of the collections presented. The proposed figure aims to generate a unitary principle that symbolises the Cité's concern: to understand the wealth of woven arts and the works on display.
The challenge here is to create a poetic link between heritage and know-how, between the hustle and bustle of the city and the quietness of the workshops, between the tradition of centuries-old art of weaving and a perfectly contemporary architecture. We have pictured a building with pure lines, perfectly measured in its expression without being a simulacrum or a pastiche.
